Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of gear & equipment do you use?

I currently shoot with a Nikon D3200, an 18-55mm wide angle lens, a 70-200mm zoom lens, and a 50mm prime lens. I edit using Adobe Photoshop Creative Cloud and Lightroom Creative Cloud. I have been a diehard Nikon fan since I was fourteen, and I don't plan to switch any time soon. My next upgrade will be to a Nikon D750 or D780 camera body!

Do you have a studio or do you shoot on location?

I've spent the vast majority of my photography career shooting primarily outdoors and on location, however, on January 1st, 2020 I opened my in-home studio to clients for the first time! Now you have the choice of booking your session in the studio or at another location of your selection.

What is the difference between full retouching and glamour retouching?

Full retouching is a generalized portrait correction option. Full retouching includes removal of all zits and small areas of redness associated with them as well as removal of red-eye, correction of uneven skin tone, dark circles under the eyes, and wrinkles.

Glamour retouching could be equated to commercial portrait correction. It includes all services previously mentioned plus extras like removing sagging jowls, airbrushing skin to remove goosebumps/texture blemishes, and removing distracting elements from the background. Typically this option is a go-to choice for boudoir, wedding, elopement, and engagement sessions that you expect to be flawless.

Do you require a deposit?

Yes, I do require a deposit to book your session. The deposit is equal to 50% of the overall session cost, and it is required to be paid at the time of booking to reserve your time slot. Deposits are non-refundable once your time slot has been reserved to cover the cost of equipment maintenance, cleaning, and servicing prior to your session, and can be paid via email invoice, Square, Venmo, or cash.

Do you have an option for payment plans?

I absolutely do! I understand that getting high quality photos done can be costly, and not everyone can afford to drop hundreds on a session all at once. Beginning in October 2020, Elevated Imagery Photography now offers pre-payment plans that allow you to break up your total session investment into 5 or fewer equal payments. You may schedule your session any time after you have made at least 3 out of 5 payments. All payment plans are at the sole discretion of the photographer, and payment plans must be in good standing to receive the soft-proofing gallery. Any outstanding balance on a payment plan must be paid in full before the final gallery or download privileges will be released to you. All payments are final on payment plans, and no refunds will be issued.

Do you charge extra for multiple outfit changes? Location changes?

I do not charge an extra fee for multiple outfit changes during a session. With that being said, outfit changes DO count against booked shooting time. It is the client's responsibility to make sure that the amount of shooting time included in their selected session package will be appropriate to accommodate their outfit changes. If you run over on time, you will be automatically invoiced for the appropriate session extension in 15 minute increments for $20 each.

I DO charge an additional fee for multiple shooting locations if the locations of your choice are more than 5 minutes drive time from each other. Changing locations also counts against booked shooting time. It is the client's responsibility to make sure that their selected session package will be appropriate to accommodate the location changes. If you run over on time, you will be automatically invoiced for the appropriate session extension in 15 minute increments for $20 each.

Can I extend the session on the day of?

If there are no other appointments booked after you on that date, then you may extend your session time in 15 minute increments for $20 each.

Do I get to keep all the digital images from the session?

When I shoot a session, I typically take more images than what my packages include. This is because sometimes I have to experiment a little with settings, exposure, and composition to get everything exactly right. After I've culled your session for unsalvageable images, you will receive a soft-proofing gallery of the remaining shot-out-of-camera photos from which to pick the images you like the best to be fully edited and added to your final gallery.

For example, if your session package includes 10 digital images, you might receive a soft-proofing gallery of 30+ shots from which you get to choose 10 favorites for the final gallery. If you just can't pick favorites, you have the option to purchase additional digitals for $35 an image or $650 for all of the remaining images that are not already included in your session package.

What is a "Soft-Proofing Gallery"?

A Soft-Proofing Gallery is a gallery of unedited shots that come directly out of camera with little or no retouching on them. The purpose of allowing the client to view a Soft-Proofing Gallery is to give the client a chance to pick their favorite images ahead of editing to save on cost for both the client and the photographer. Hosting images in an online gallery for a client is rather expensive for storage space, and the more images that require hosting, the more expensive the gallery becomes. Soft-Proofing fixes all that by allowing the photographer to only host the necessary images.

Do I have to order prints through you?

No, you do not have to order your prints through Elevated Imagery, however it is encouraged. Elevated Imagery maintains a partnership with a professional grade printing lab, and orders through us come back from the lab demonstrating superior light tolerance & fade resistance, better quality, and higher clarity as compared to consumer printers in town such as Walgreens or Walmart. While some portrait packages come with one or more included 8x10 prints at no additional cost, if you'd prefer to make prints yourself on your own time you can purchase the printing rights to any digitals from your session for $95 per image.

Why is purchasing printing rights so expensive?

In order to understand the high cost of printing rights, you first need to understand what printing rights are.

When purchasing digital images from a professional photographer, the printing rights are a legal release to print the images at a printing lab of your choice on your own time instead of ordering copies through your photographer and your photographer's lab. Once the printing rights have been purchased by the client, there is really no reason for a client to place a print order through the photographer, and the cost of the legal release reflects that loss in sales opportunities.
